The Waterford Welcome Ambassadors have returned for the 2026 visitor season, offering friendly assistance to visitors across Waterford City and County.
The volunteer ambassadors help visitors with directions, transport information, suggestions for places to eat and drink, and guidance on local attractions, heritage sites, beaches, walks and events. Their local knowledge is intended to help visitors make the most of their stay while also supporting local businesses and tourism providers.
Although the programme is countywide, it is relevant for Kilmacthomas because the village sits on the Waterford Greenway and welcomes walkers, cyclists and visitors throughout the season. A strong countywide visitor welcome helps promote return visits and encourages people to explore towns and villages beyond the main destinations.
According to Waterford City and County Council, the programme is supported by Waterford Volunteer Centre, Waterford Chamber, local tourism partners and coordinators across Waterford City, Tramore, Lismore, Dungarvan and Dunmore East.
Mayor of Waterford City and County Cllr. Seamus Ryan welcomed the return of the ambassadors, while council tourism staff highlighted the value of their advice and recommendations for visitors. The programme is also a reminder of the importance of a friendly local welcome in supporting tourism across the county.
